The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) has announced a major institutional expansion of its “Iftar for Those Fasting” initiative this Ramadan, marked by an increase in Iftar tents, full digital administration of operations, and strengthened public–community partnerships.

Organized by the General Directorate of Endowments, the initiative stands as one of Qatar’s leading Ramadan endowment projects, reflecting values of mercy, solidarity, and social responsibility. The program operates under a structured governance framework to ensure transparency, sustainability, and adherence to endowers’ conditions.

Assistant Director General of the General Directorate of Endowments and Chairman of the Iftar Project, Eng. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Meer, emphasized that the initiative carries religious, humanitarian, and social dimensions. It not only revives the Sunnah of feeding those who fast but has evolved into a sustainable endowment model that strengthens social security and community cohesion.

Beyond meal distribution, the project integrates awareness campaigns in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Municipality, and Abdullah Bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Center. Programs include religious lectures, Shariah guidance, multilingual consultations, health awareness activities, and medical screenings.

The initiative primarily serves workers, low-income individuals, and fasting people unable to prepare their meals due to work or housing conditions. Iftar tent locations are selected based on population density, accessibility, and strict health and regulatory standards to ensure efficient and safe service delivery.

Funding is managed through a structured waqf system, distinguishing sustainable endowments from one-time donations. The project offers flexible participation options, including:

  • Sponsoring a full Ramadan tent: QAR 650,000 (approx. 45,000 meals)
  • Sponsoring a one-day tent: QAR 21,000 (approx. 1,500 meals)
  • Sponsoring Iftar for 10 individuals: QAR 180
  • Sponsoring Iftar for one individual: QAR 19

All tents are equipped according to approved health and nutritional standards, utilize eco-friendly materials, and operate under precise electronic monitoring in coordination with relevant authorities.
