Qatar Reads, a Qatar National Library (QNL) initiative dedicated to nurturing a passion for reading across the nation, has renewed its partnership with the Ministry of Culture, with the upcoming launch of a new reading space at Doha Festival City.
Running from September 1 to 20, the interactive event, part of Qatar Reads’ popular Family Reading Program (FRP), aims to encourage reading and learning among families in time for the new academic year.
The space will feature areas showcasing various Qatar Reads programs and offer dynamic activities for all ages. Families can also easily subscribe to the FRP on-site with assistance from the Qatar Reads team.
The collaboration supports Qatar Reads’ mission to make reading resources and programs widely accessible, aligning with the start of the academic year in Qatar.

It offers a national opportunity to elevate literacy through collaborations with key institutions like the Ministry of Culture, whose goals align with the initiative. The partnership also advances DFC’s own goal of transforming into a cultural hub through collaboration with government and semi-government entities, ensuring the event is widely accessible and enriching.
“We’re truly excited to bring back this reading space initiative to Doha Festival City. The strong turnout in April showed how passionate families are about reading. This September, we’re building on that success, strengthening our commitment to fostering a vibrant reading culture through accessible and engaging initiatives. It aligns perfectly with DFC’s focus for September,” said Qatar Reads’ Manager Fatema Al Malki.
Jassim Ahmad Al Buainin, the Director of the Libraries Department at the Ministry of Culture in Qatar, highlighted the broader significance of such initiatives.
“The Ministry of Culture is committed to promoting literacy and cultural enrichment throughout Qatar. Events like the reading space and others under the Family Reading Program play a vital role in building strong family bonds through shared experiences and instilling a love of knowledge from a young age. We commend Qatar Reads and Doha Festival City for their joint efforts in this important area.”
Christopher Barton, Asset Director – Doha Festival City added, “Doha Festival City is proud to partner once again with Qatar Reads for a new reading space. As September marks an important ‘Back to School’ period, we’re committed to providing a space that supports educational activities for our community. This initiative perfectly aligns with our focus on reading this month, offering families a unique and interactive way to engage with books and learning in a welcoming environment.”
The activation will feature curated reading activities and opportunities to discover the benefits of the Family Reading Program. As the host venue, Doha Festival City will bring families together to explore the world of books, take part in engaging activities, and discover how the Family Reading Program can enrich their home and learning environment.
