Day two of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 delivered statement wins, late twists, and early clues about the tournament’s emerging contenders.
Morocco set the tone with a commanding 3-1 victory over debutants Comoros at the Khalifa International Stadium, striking twice from early corners before adding a third just before half-time.
Egypt then required an 88th-minute Mohamed Afsha penalty to salvage a 1-1 draw against 10-man Kuwait in Lusail, while Saudi Arabia closed the day with a hard-earned 2-1 win over Oman at Education City Stadium.
Morocco’s early dominance in Al Rayyan came through set-piece precision, with Soufiane Bouftini heading in a fifth-minute opener and Tarik Tissoudali doubling the lead from another corner six minutes later.
A deep cross from Hamza El Moussaoui in first-half stoppage time found Karim El Berkaoui, whose diving header made it 3-0 and ultimately secured him the Player of the Match award.
Comoros, true to their resilient nature, pulled one back in the 56th when Housseine Zakouani’s cross was diverted into his own net by Mohamed Boulacsout, but Morocco managed the remainder professionally and even saw a late penalty appeal overturned by VAR as they claimed early control of Group B.

In Lusail, Egypt’s Group C opener unfolded with tense swings in momentum. Playing without several first-choice players, the Pharaohs earned a penalty midway through the first half after Abdulwahab Alawadhi fouled Eslam Eissa, but captain Amr El Solia dragged the attempt wide.
Egypt’s misses proved costly when Kuwait took a surprise lead in the 64th through Fahad Al Hajeri, who rose highest to power home a header from a Mohammad Daham corner. Daham nearly sealed victory ten minutes from time, only for Mohamed Bassam to block his clever chipped finish.
Late pressure from Egypt finally told when Kuwait goalkeeper Saud Al Hoshan was sent off for bringing down Marwan Hamdi, and Mohamed Afsha levelled from the spot in the 88th to clinch a dramatic draw.

The day concluded in Doha with Saudi Arabia edging Oman 2-1 after a goalless first half marked by caution on both sides. The Green Falcons intensified their pressing after the break and were rewarded in the 55th when Salem Al Dawsari delivered a precise cross that Feras Al Brikan headed into the net.
Oman responded with determination, equalising in the 70th through Ghanim Al Habashi’s composed header. Yet Saudi Arabia found another surge moments later, with Al Dawsari again the provider as Saleh Al Shehri converted a decisive second goal.
Oman continued to push, but the Saudi defence held firm to secure all three points and move level with Morocco at the top of Group B.
