On Tuesday, 14 October 2025, FIFA announced the appointment of 54 referees for the upcoming FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, scheduled from 1 to 18 December 2025. The selection comprises 14 main referees, 28 assistant referees, and 12 video assistant referees (VAR) from 23 national federations, as detailed in FIFA’s official statement.
Among the appointees, four Qataris have been selected: Abdulrahman Al Jassim (main referee), Saud Al Maqaleh and Taleb Al Marri (assistant referees), and Khamis Al Marri (VAR). Their participation will undergo technical review by a panel of specialists prior to the tournament’s commencement.
This tournament serves as an important platform for referees aspiring for selection in the FIFA World Cup 2026 in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Matches will be held across six stadiums previously used during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
To date, nine teams have secured qualification, while the remaining 14 teams will compete for the final seven spots in play-offs scheduled for 25 and 26 November in Doha.
