 This landmark exhibition takes you on a journey through NMoQ’s 50–year history, beginning with when the museum was known as the Qatar National Museum (QNM). Through braiding, adornment and ritual, the exhibition explores how hair carries stories of memory, beauty, resistance, and identity, especially within matrilineal Amazigh cultures. What was once objectified and exoticised through colonial and ethnographic lenses is here reclaimed as a vibrant language of self-expression, sovereignty, and cultural pride. Contemporary artists reimagine inherited forms to reflect the strength, creativity, and dignity embedded in these traditions. Moving from archival material to present-day practice, the exhibition affirms hair as a medium of continuity and transformation.
